Parents will be glad to see that I am teaching my 12-13 year old campers how to lead rounds of card based Roulette at the annual Carnival.

The summer of 2017, I worked as a cabin and clinic counselor at Kingswood Camp for Boys, an all boys overnight camp in the midst of the White Mountains, NH. My responsibilities on a daily basis involved but were not limited to

  • acting as head counselor for the cabin of 12-13 year olds 1st Session

  • acting as head counselor for the cabin of 7-8 year olds 2nd Session

  • maintaining and operating the fleet of outboard motors on the skiffs as well as the inboard powered ski boats

  • teaching a variety of clinics: sailing, paddleboarding, windsurfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, soccer and riflery

Additionally, although it was my first year as a counselor at this camp, and any camp in general, I was selected by the Head of Staff, Klaus, to sit at a meal table with him and campers he assigned for the week. Unbeknownst to the campers eating with us for every meal, we were the "booster" table, bringing ourselves, 1-2 strong, senior campers and 5-6 campers who were struggling with eating challenges, homesickness and/or general malaise together to improve the day-to-day of those having a less than ideal camp experience . In my role at the table, Klaus and I tried to navigate and mitigate the negative sentiments of campers as well as encouraged them to eat a diverse, healthy array of foods.

Finally, I would also occasionally lead day hikes into the White Mountains with groups of up to 10 campers, ages 8-14.
